TikTok, step by step
Start from the original export
Use the file your editing app exported before you posted it: it is full quality and carries no TikTok watermark. If you only have the posted version, the TikTok app's Save video option downloads it, usually with the TikTok watermark added.
Keep captions where people can see them
TikTok draws its interface over the video — the caption and sound name along the bottom, the like, comment and share buttons down the right. Subtitles under either are partly hidden.
- Keep subtitles out of the bottom fifth of the frame and away from the right edge.
- Aim for about 20–30 characters per line on a 9:16 frame.
- Use one or two short lines; split a long sentence into two captions.
TikTok's captions or burned-in subtitles
TikTok can auto-caption a video, and viewers can turn those captions off — useful, but you do not control the wording and they will not be translated. Burned-in subtitles look the same everywhere the video goes, and are the way to post a translated version.

Can I translate the captions?

Why are my captions hidden on TikTok?
